I have been involved in community media since 1976, working to ensure that everyone has access to the tools and technologies needed to participate in civic life. I joined the staff of Cambridge Community Television when it opened in 1988, and became Executive Director in 1993.

CCTV will hold its 24th Annual Meeting on April 25th beginning at 6PM. Awards will be bestowed, food will be consumed, and elections for 4 seats on CCTV's Board of Directors will be held. A full list of Board candidates is available here.

Being on the board allows me to merge the background and experience I have in media with my desire to serve my home community in a way that—I hope—offers a lasting benefit to the residents of Cambridge. I am proud to say that I have been serving on the CCTV Board of Directors since 2008. I have had the honor and privilege of being the Chair of the Board for the last year and a half, during arguably one of the most exciting and challenging chapters in CCTV’s history. The City of Cambridge has issued a license to Comcast to provide cable services to the residents of Cambridge. The agreement requires that Comcast pay a franchise fee of 5% to the City for use of the public rights of way. Through an agreement with Cambridge Community Television, a portion of these revenues are given for the management of the public access channels. The attached documents are the Cable License, a side letter having to do with the public, educational and governmental access channels, and the Agreement Between CCTV and the City.

I was able to walk through Harvard Yard this morning for the first time since Occupy Harvard set up camp. After agreeing to remove all tents except for the geodesic dome that serves as its information center, and to refrain from sleeping at the site, Occupy Harvard has moved into its 2.0 phase.

On November 17, Governor Deval Patrick announced $7.4 million in grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund (CFF) to support building projects for nonprofit arts, heritage, and science organizations across the Commonwealth. CCTV received a $250,000 award for the Capital Campaign for its new facilities. Other Cambridge institutions Lesley University and the Cambridge Center for Adult Education also received $250,000 the top award given in this round of funding. “These grants will create new jobs in arts, culture, and tourism -- three pillars of our state’s creative economy,” said Governor Patrick. “These investments will support our cultural organizations and allow them to serve the public with quality programs that will enrich our communities for generations to come.”

Cambridge Community Television (CCTV) Whistleblower Policy Adopted May 23, 2007 General CCTV’s Code of Ethics and Conduct (“Code”) requires directors, officers and employees to observe high standards of business and personal ethics in the conduct of their duties and responsibilities. As employees and representatives of the Organization, we must practice honesty and integrity in fulfilling our responsibilities and comply with all applicable laws and regulations. Reporting Responsibility It is the responsibility of all directors, officers and employees to comply with the Code and to report violations or suspected violations in accordance with this Whistleblower Policy. No Retaliation No director, officer or employee who in good faith reports a violation of the Code shall suffer harassment, retaliation or adverse employment consequence. An employee who retaliates against someone who has reported a violation in good faith is subject to discipline up to and including termination of employment.
