April 24, 2011 - 9:46am When high school students Maho at Lynn Classical High School (who is orginally from Bosnia) or Sandy at Boston Latin Academy from Mattapan told their stories the air was taught with the energy and attention their peers were sending them. The two students are as different as can be: teachers said they were surprised to see Maho step up to the mic - he has a stutter, they said, but it was not at all evident in his performance. Sandy is an award winning slam poet and practiced performer but the raw memory of her story caused her to pause for composure.StoriesLive® has brought forth many more stories; poignant, funny, sad and joyful. For more stories posted online: http://massmouth.org/storieslive/photos-and-video-from-storieslive%C2%AE... These are just two of the stories we will hear in StoriesLive® Scholarship High School slam on April 30th starting at 2:30PM in the auditorium of the Cambidge's Main Library. Free and open to the public, this event is supported by StoryStream Cambridge's ctiy wide storytelling initiative. hi res pictures available on request read more
April 24, 2011 - 9:39am Please listen to Maho's story... http://youtu.be/EYSHNfl04hQ This is just one of many stories that shows why we created StoriesLive program. And there is a story behind this story too - one of Maho's teachers said the boy usually had a stutter and she was surprised to see him step up to perform. Really ? Not evident while he is telling his story. Watch and you will see why we organizers at massmouth have borrowed money, written grants, raised funds and begged for money AND also worked tirelessly, without pay, to make our first year a success. We think you will understand why we scheme and dream to make this program happen again next year, too. See how quiet Maho's classmates become as they listen and realize who he is and what he has been through. How better to build a culture of compassion than to listen to one another - to speak and be heard ? Crafting, telling and listening to stories involves deep learning of great value for all the students involved. StoriesLive® has brought forth many more stories; poignant, funny, sad and silly. Look here for more stories online:http://massmouth.org/storieslive/photos-and-video-from-storieslive%C2%AE... And then, please come listen to... read more

Launched in 1924 by a manifesto of André Breton and having a strong political content, the movement grew out of symbolism and Dada and was strongly influenced by Sigmund Freud. In the visual arts its most notable exponents were André Masson, Jean Arp, Joan Miró, René Magritte, Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, Man Ray, and Luis Buñuel. Personally I was struck by how much of the show was NOT about Salvador Dali but this issue: Freud and the Seduction Theory: A challenge to the foundations of psychoanalysis The Atlantic Monthly | February 1984 Freud and the... read more

November 5, 2010 - 1:01pm Co-host Patrick Maguire, is the editor/author of the award winning blog : http://www.servernotservant.com/about/ and Service is the theme... Lip service. Service, please. Customer service. Public service? You've done the work, now - bring the story. Norah Dooley has been a waitress, dishwasher, bicycle courier, xerox operator, copy shop manager, taxi driver, graphic artist, burglar alarm "listener" and mother of four. Service is her middle name. She is also a writer and storyteller and a gadfly. Her website is http://www.norahdooley.com/www.norahdooley.com/Norah_Dooley.html Patrick has been engaging people in a dialogue that he hopes will result in more respect for service industry workers and greater civility among human beings. His core beliefs: * That the customer has almost as much to do with the success of every customer service interaction as the service worker. * That the customer, especially the abusive customer, is often dead wrong. * That all of us are responsible for serving each other with mutual respect and civility. Well - he is running uphill, against the grain and upstream on this one and that means? He has some great stories! His blog will serve as a vehicle for... read more

October 25, 2010 - 10:09pm Loving paper and pens as I do, it was pure fun to spend a few hours shooting stationary objects while listening to Gail talk about "life, the universe and everything". Gail and Barry have been finding office supplies and pens we need or just want, for years. I spent a few hour on a Saturday AM with Gail talking about her work. I loved the way the stacks of merchandise created patterns and I am afraid I was thinking about "paintings" as I shot and not film. Considering my turgid filming and editing, Gail's lively personality has a lot of dead weight to carry in this project - but she is up to the task. Prepared as an assignment for Digital Media Production at Emerson College, OCTOBER 2010 Music: "Stand By Me" Ben E. King Playing for Changehttp://www.playingforchange.org/ Several years ago, a small group of filmmakers set out with a dream to make a documentary film about street musicians from around the world. That dream has grown not only into a reality, but into a global sensation called Playing For Change, and has touched the lives of millions of people. While traveling to around the world to film and record these musicians, the crew became intimately involved with the music and... read more
