CCTV Summer Screening Series, June 10-12!
Come check out the latest works from CCTV's producers! We'll be holding our Summer Screening Series from Wednesday, June 10, through Friday, June 12, showcasing the work of local media makers. All screenings are free, will begin at 7pm, and will include brief conversations with the producers, refreshments, and a raffle for prizes!
The Screenings:
Wednesday, June 10: Cambridge Community Screenings. During this community-centric evening, works about the Cambridge community produced by participants in CCTV classes and programs will be screened. CCTV’s Neighbormedia program, which is a team of local civic journalists investigating issues affecting Cambridge; CCTV’s ZIP Docs class, which creates short documentaries about Cambridge; and the Cambridge Bites production group, which profiles local restaurants and the people behind them, will all screen their most recent works.
Thursday, June 11: The Centers of the Universe. Created by CCTV’s Project Documentary group, this documentary looks at the role of religion in society through the lens of Bertolt Brecht’s play “Life of Galileo.” The project follows the trials and elations of a small theater company as they bring Brecht's vision of Galileo to life. The video also examines the eternal conflict between spirituality and reason – still a conflict today, as it was in Galileo’s time. In-depth discussions with scientists, artists and religious scholars bring a critical perspective to such controversial issues as evolution and stem cell research. The latest episode of "You Are Here,” a member-produced news-magazine show, will also screen, including segments on environmental issues, Cambridge Arts events, and an interview with Amy Goodman.
Friday, June 12: Youth Media Program Screening. This screening is the culmination of CCTV’s School Year Production Program (SYPP), a rigorous after-school program that supports teens as they create media about their community. This semester, SYPP students produced “Artists at Work,” a studio program featuring local artists and performing groups, including Capoeria Angola, Imobilare (MIT’s break-dancing troupe), A Different Spin Circus Performers, and Nancy Trottier, a book artist and calligrapher. SYPP students also collaborated with elementary and middle school students from Tutoring Plus to produce three segments about leadership.
