Calls are needed to your member's office to protect low income people!

Your Representative is on the House Committee on Financial Services. This Committee will vote on the Affordable Housing and Self-Sufficiency Improvement Act (AHSSIA) on Wednesday, April 18.

The Committee will be considering the April 13 version of this draft bill, which does not have a bill number. The latest draft of this bill makes significant improvements to the bill's sections on minimum rents and Moving to Work expansion.

The minimum rent, Moving to Work, and the bill as a whole could be undermined if amendments that harm low income people are adopted during Committee consideration. During previous considerations of housing legislation, amendments have been offered that would impose time limits on housing assistance, would impose work requirements on residents, would impose identification requirements, and would dramatically expand the Moving to Work program in ways that could be detrimental to residents.

Call your Representative today and ask him or her to

• Support the bill only if it protects low income people's housing stability
• Oppose amendments that would harm low income people

Make sure your Representative knows that these issues matter to you.

For the latest summary of the bill, see this week's Memo to Members article.

Thank you for your continued support and action!
