Being a member of the Advanced Summer Media Institute group is a very big change from last year's SMI. We now get to skip all of the beginning training, and get right into working on our projects. Our first project, the documentary on the MSYEP is a good chance for us to get used to working with each other and the equipment again, while we still are creating a documentary that will be shown all over Cambridge. Everyone's favorite though, of course, is the final project, where anything goes; or almost anything at least.
Our documentary right now is still in the stage of shooting, but we are also editing at the same time. Usually we will split up and a few of us will go and shoot some footage, while others will either edit, work on our final project, or help mentor the regular SMI people. As of right now, we have interviews with some students involved in the Mayor's Program, as well as a few counselors and George, the head of the program. We also have some B-Roll of kids working and participating in the workshops that the program involves. There is still a ways to go before we are completely finished, but I think it will be very good once it is done.
The second and last of our projects was pretty much completely up to us. At our first discussion, everyone seemed to agree that we wanted to make a comedy. From there we brainstormed ideas for what that comedy would be about, and finally narrowed it down to one solid idea. At the moment, we are putting the finishing touches on the script for our movie and we will probably start shooting soon.
Can't wait to see the documentary!
