You Could Be a Civic Journalist: Learn More About CCTV's NeighborMedia Program, Info Session July 9!

Learn journalism and media skills, and report on important community issues by joining Cambridge Community TV’s NeighborMedia civic journalism team.

NeighborMedia correspondents are volunteers who cover stories happening in the city of Cambridge through blogging and video production. No prior technical experience is needed as training will be provided, but a strong interest in Cambridge community issues and reporting on them is a must!

There will be an information session on Thursday, July 9, at 6:30pm, at CCTV to provide more information about how to get involved in the program.

Women, Action and the Media 2009 Conference Videos Now Playing on CCTV

At the end of March, CCTV shot some of the panels from the WAM 2009 conference, featuring speakers on a variety of topics related to women and the media, journalism, new media, and more. Those videos are now playing on CCTV; click here to learn when you can tune in to see each session!

Save The Date: CCTV's Annual Backyard BBQ, Sept. 17th, Tickets Available Now!

Join CCTV in stimulating the community – at our annual Backyard BBQ, on Thursday, September 17th, at 5:30pm. This festive evening will take place in CCTV's "backyard" in Central Square, and will feature food grilled by local chefs, live music from the popular Afro-beat/soul band Zili Misik, and a silent auction featuring a variety of unique items. All proceeds will benefit CCTV's Youth Media Program.

The theme of this year's BBQ is "Stimulating the Community," and three individuals whose diligent work has made Cambridge a better place will also be honored with the presentation of the Leading Role Award: read more...

SMI Starting Monday, July 6th

Staff at CCTV are preparing for the 19th annual Summer Media Institute, set to start this Monday, July 6th at 9:30 a.m. The Summer Media Institute, or the SMI, is a six week media production and work experience program for Cambridge teens, run through a collaboration with the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program and Cambridge Community Services' CityLinks Program. This year, the program will serve 27 teens-- more young people than ever before! For more information about CCTV's youth programs, or to watch media produced by youth at CCTV, click here.

Cambridge Carnival Call for Artists

The 2009 Cambridge Carnival is looking for participants for this year's Carnival Parade, which will take place on Sunday, September 13th. Bands, performers, and dancers are invited to participate, and creative floats are needed as well. More information can be found here. CCTV is a media sponsor of the 2009 Cambridge Carnival.

Proposed Legislation on Beacon Hill Threatens Local Cable Licensing

Special interest legislation has been filed on Beacon Hill on behalf of Verizon. House Bill No. 3765 and Senate Bill No. 1531, An Act Promoting Consumer Choice and Competition, seeks to change the way that cable companies negotiate with local communities in order to obtain a license to operate. read more...
